[Alpha Biz= Kim Jisun] Nintendo has chosen Samsung Electronics as the key manufacturing partner for its next-generation gaming console, reportedly named “Switch 2,” according to Bloomberg on May 20 (local time). The Japanese gaming giant plans to produce over 20 million units of the new console by March 2026 in collaboration with Samsung.



Bloomberg reported that Samsung is currently developing a custom processor for the Switch 2 using Nvidia’s 8nm fabrication process. This chip is designed for rapid mass production, enabling Nintendo to ship large volumes of the console by its anticipated launch in March 2025.



This partnership is considered a significant win for Samsung, particularly in its competition with Taiwan-based TSMC in the semiconductor foundry market. Bloomberg noted, “Samsung could benefit from improved foundry utilization rates and increased business activity as a result of the deal.”



Samsung has long been a key component supplier for Nintendo, previously providing NAND flash memory and OLED panels for earlier versions of the Switch. The company is also expected to actively promote OLED displays for the upcoming Switch 2 model.



While the original Switch (released in 2017) featured a main chip produced by TSMC, the Switch 2 will reportedly use a new Nvidia-designed processor optimized for Samsung’s manufacturing process.
