[Alpha Biz= Kim Jisun] SEOUL, June 10 — YES24, a leading South Korean online bookstore, has reportedly fallen victim to a ransomware attack that has disrupted its website and mobile application, causing significant inconvenience for users.

According to materials submitted by Rep. Choi Soo-jin of the National Assembly’s Science, ICT, Broadcasting and Communications Committee, YES24 reported the cyberattack to the Korea Internet & Security Agency (KISA) on the afternoon of June 9.

Since the early hours of June 9, the company's website and app services have been inaccessible. As a result, users have been unable to search for books, track deliveries, or access ticketing services, effectively halting all online functions of YES24.

Rep. Choi's office revealed that hackers have encrypted user data and are demanding a ransom for decryption. YES24 has so far been unable to restore access to the compromised information.

However, the company has not consented to technical support from KISA, limiting the agency’s ability to investigate the incident thoroughly and assist with recovery efforts.

It remains unclear whether YES24 complied with the legal requirement to report the cyberattack to authorities within 24 hours of discovery.
